Things could have been very, very different. I know angels are at work watching and protecting. I am thankful for family, health, healing and the message my sister is sending out to others. She is a survivor, and so can you be. She is living proof that there is hope. I am thankful her heart is willing to help those still suffering. Her message is of survival and hope to never, ever give up -- it's never to late. What are you thankful for today? I am thankful for family, our healing and so much more. Thank you sis! What amazes me about people and life, is that we all have a story. We are all great spirits if we nurture ourselves and listen. The metaphor of the box and the closet connects to many people who have experienced trauma and pain. I believe that it is a natural gift of healing to be able to confront things as our strength permits. For me, I have to remind myself to stay attentive for when I need to gather up the courage to open the box and deal with those hidden pains, and not just let them stay forever to fester. There is the freedom for me. When I've cleaned out the closets. A dirty job sometimes, but hey, somebody's got to do it! Keep smiling, Dawn Hi Karla,

As I've grown, I've learned and realized that we are not alone in our hardships and this site is a wonderful platform for us to exchange our experiences, share our tragedies and learn from and by eachother--unfortunately, most everyone suffers a drastic loss of some kind. my sister was killed when i was a child (I was 13 and she was 15)and although still devastating, i've embraced her death and therefore her life. i've learned from her death and i'm thankful for the time we had together. we all are the phoenix from the ashes. and like sharon said in wonderland, take all that bad stuff and put it in a box and put the box away. it took me 10 years to face my sister's death, and once i did (gift by perry farrel was the catalyst), once i celebrated her life, i was changed and her death changed from hell and darkness into the blessing of her life. i learned and matured and grew.
